"The Mini Men: In 1964 Dizzy Addicott's front-engined DART aopeared, inspiring both the Mini-Marcos of 1965 and the Minijem of the following year. "Ugliness didn't hold back the Mini-Marcos - it was cheap, and one actually finished at Le Mans in 1966 - and some 1250 were sold in more or less continuous production from 1965 to 1981, making it one of the best selling kit cars ever. Ironically the Minijem was prettier but with less powerful backing it sold in smaller numbers, dying out in 1976 after 350 had been sold." This excellent series by Malcolm McKay covers several Mini kit cars including the Butterfield Musketeer, Deep Sanderson 301, Unipower GT and GTM as well as the Marcos GT, Gullwing and 1800. |
