Welcome to the Mini Marcos Owners Club web site. My aim in setting up this site has been to provide as much information as possible in a simple format which should be accessible from any browser. The site covers specific club information plus general information relating to our cars (Mini Marcos, Mini Jem and Kingfisher Sprint) and other Mini-based specials. Contributions and ideas for new features are always welcome, and feedback links are provided from the main pages. You can also use the Visitors' Book to record your comments and suggestions. We have a bulletin board system, the Mini Marcos Forum, which provides a forum for discussion of all aspects of owning our cars. To post to the forum you first have to register which entails e-mail verification and administrator validation. This is normally granted as long as you accept the rule of using your usual name and not an obscure handle or nickname. There are of course a few other conditions relating to inappropriate use. The forum also provides an events calendar which has superseded the What's On page. Because the bulletin board is a third party product there may be some minor compatibility problems but I am trying to resolve these where possible. The site is now hosted at Web-Mania and we have 500 MBytes of web space at our disposal. However because of space constraints in the past I have have put some sections relating to Mini Jem and Kingfisher Sprint onto my personal site, MiniJem Plus. Graphics are kept to a minimum except in the photographic and press cuttings sections where the file size is given for local images. I aim to keep images to not more than 800 x 600 pixels and 100 kbytes, though some are a bit over this file size. The What's New pages list changes in the current and previous uploads and provide links to the changed pages. The last-updated date is shown on every page, and there is always a link to the home page at the bottom left. Technical InformationFor compatibility reasons no use is made of javascript, java, cookies, flash or XML. Newly updated pages are being validated to the W3C HTML 4.0 Transitional standard. I am introducing cascading style sheets (CSS) on some pages, but they will remain fully readable and navigable on browsers which do not support CSS. The site is fully navigable without frames. I fully support the aims of the Any Browser Campaign - you do not need to have the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Macromedia Flash in order to access the site! The site is prepared on an Acorn RiscPC under RISC OS 4.39 and is checked on Fresco 2.13, Oregano 1.10, NetSurf, Firefox 1.5 (RISC OS), Netscape Navigator 7.0, Mozilla 5.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 (Mac). The site is hosted on a Linux server running Apache. The BBS is written in Perl. Richard Porter |
